County needs to be even-handed in enforcing vacation rentals
Rentals, regardless of their nature, that are for less than 180 days in Maui County are illegal, not only vacation rentals of less than 180 days.
 
No complaints cited by county for vacation rentals on Molokai
Mateo said that they have taken the position of "no vacation rentals because there have been too many complaints from every neighborhood, on every island, across the board." The mayor’s only comment was: "It is very simple: they are illegal and must be stopped." According to the county’s online database, there are no complaints filed against TVRs on Molokai.

Mayor’s vacation rental policy, before and after the election

July 26 letter finds NO compelling reason to outlaw vacation rentals.

July 18th letters to the editor in the Maui News reflect community concerns of the loss of jobs and allegations the County action is being unfairly directed by just one individual, a licensed vacation rental owner, who stands to gain by eliminating all competition.
